Elmer's - Mothers Day Button Flowers
 |
Mothers love nothing more than a precious gift made by the little hands of their children. This year, let your little ones spread this joy by helping them make a special Mother's Day button flower. According to Elmer's product manager Alicia Buter, you will need plastic buttons in different shapes, pre-cut foam in flower shapes, jewels, as well as chenille stems, dowel rods and tacky glue. Start by picking your shapes and laying them out to see how they will look together. This planning stage will help kids choose colours that coordinate with each other and get an idea of how the completed project will look. The dowel rod is used to create the stem of the flower and can be decorated by painting it, adding foam petals, or wrapping chenille stems around the rod for a candy cane effect, or to create petals. When the flower is created, you will then adhere it to the stem. Using tacky glue, you can add just one flower, or multiple flowers per dowel rod. Let the glue dry for at least half an hour, keeping the flower flat and weighing it down with something to ensure it sticks. To display individual flowers or an entire flower garden, fill empty containers such as soap bottles with beads that will help the flowers stand upright.
